Favorite memory from High School/Confession
|
I have nothing to confess cause I could never get away with anything. My only bad habit is lying. I do remember the following (I think): Joe's mom made great fudge for the Monopoly games. Laughing myself out of my desk in Mr. Trent's class. Vance has a Valiant (?) with push button shift on the dash. Terry moved up from a humpback Volvo to a GTO. A trip to see Dr. Zhavago (sp). Trips to the lake with Steve O. and hanging out with the Muntz's. Kenny's dad had
a Pontiac with a huge V8. A rear end wreck while cruising on Main Street because my mind was on somewhere (one) else. Picking up Jenny in my "new" 56 Chevy and dropping a fender skirt within a couple blocks. Riding with Janie to Dr. Cunningham's (?) in OKC.

| Accomplishments: |
I will be married to the Love of my life 36 years, Aug. 20th, 2007. Graduated East Central, 1971. Back in church, after not attending since 1969. It took the death of my husband's Mom, step sister and four others in a horrific auto accident in which seven others were injured for me and my husband to examine our lives and make a change for the better by turning to God. I sincerely hope you take this
to heart and honestly question the direction of your life. I truly hope it doesn't take something as drastic in your life as it took with us, to get us to turn to God instead of keep turning away from God. I'm a member of Bible Baptist Church (KJV). Most importantly, I accepted Jesus Christ as my savior. The single most important decision anyone will ever make. If God isn't in your life now, I hope you will give him a place in your life very soon. |
|
Future Plans?
|
Spend more time with my husband, once our new church building is finished. He has remained faithful, even having suffered a heart attack and emergency surgery. He was soon back working on the building. We would love to have you all visit Bible Baptist Church (KJV) at 7501 SW Lee in Lawton. I plan on remaining a faithful Christian.

Did not paint the bank building but I was behind the wheel of Bill Britton's white ford with Steve West and Mike Cox in the back seat, when the donuts were spun on the practice field the night before the start of our SENIOR YEAR. Dragging main street and Friday night football. Do Terry Koontz and Gary Pannell remember hitching rides on the back of semi-trailers from Broadway to Mississippi then back again? Beer busts at the river; Jr. High was the greatest.

Favorite memory from High School/Confession
|
I have so many good memories of high school I have a hard time naming just one. I enjoyed all of the social and athletic activities in high school, but I absolutely ignored the academics. My fondest memories are of Judy and the things that we did together, but I'll save that discussion for the reunion. I have many fond memories that involved Steve West, Bruce Johnson and Bill Britton.
There are a few confessions that I will make now that forty years have passed. However, I will disavow any knowledge of our participation in these events should this bio fall into the hands of the authorities. Besides, I think the statute of limitations have run out. One night we tried to buy beer, with my fake ID, at Marty's Little Brown Jug (Linda Harbert Taylor's brother Marty) and he called the police and had us arrested. We thought he was just kidding us
and
we sat there and waited for the police to show up. I told you I wasn't academically inclined and I guess Bill, Steve and Bruce were not rocket scientists either. There is more to this story, but I'll save that for the reunion. We tied a sanitary napkin to the antenna of someone's car, but I can't remember who the car belonged to. If it was your car, I'm sorry I let Steve do that. I tried to stop him, but he was a lot bigger and stronger.
We siphoned five gallons of gas out of a tractor and set Roller Coaster hill on fire. What a big mistake. We almost trapped ourselves and the fire could be seen for miles, but no one was harmed or property damaged. Bill and I tried to stop Bruce, but Steve held us back. I told you he was really big and strong.
One night Bill Britton drove on to the practice field at AHS and began cutting doughnuts on the muddy field. As soon as Steve, Bruce and I woke up, we made him get off of the field. Well, as soon as we were able to push our car out of the mud.
One summer night we were dragging Main Street and riding around town when a big snake crawled across the road in front of us. I jumped out and caught it. We drove up and down Main looking for some unsuspecting girls to give the snake. As we drove by the police station we saw an OHP Trooper's car with window down and I had the bright idea to put the snake in the Trooper's car. I really wish Steve would have stopped me that night, but he is really afraid of snakes.
There is more to this story and many more that I will be glad to share at the reunion.
Well, I guess by now that I have convinced you that Steve was a big, strong guy in high school. And he still is. But, I'm the one who knocked out his front tooth. His mother never forgave me. Steve, I told you I would get even for dropping that 50 pound dumb bell on my big toe. Steve can tell the rest of this story at the reunion. Now that I think about it, those guys were a really bad influence on me, but they are still my friends.
|
|
One thing you would do differently?
|
This may sound crazy, but I would do all of my homework, study hard and not provoke my teachers to wrath. There was just something about me (a smart mouth and sharp tongue) that seemed to make some of my teachers so angry they would cuss at me in front of the whole class. One time I made Mrs. Grogan so mad that she threatened to slap the s**t out of me if I didn't get up and go to Mr. Stewart's
office. I regret that I did not apologized to her before she died.

Favorite memory from High School/Confession
|
The thing I remember most is standing outside the high school doors every morning talking to my first boyfriend, Monte Newcombe. For breakfast, my mother always gave me a hard-boiled egg, toast and orange juice with a teaspoon of brewer's yeast stirred in. So while I was trying to master the art of flirting, I was also trying to control my farting! Good exercise for my sphincter muscles.
My weirdest memory is having to get through a performance of Bye Bye Birdie without attending a rehearsal -- a rather good metaphor for my entire time at Ada High School. I'm not actually sure this really happened or if I just dreamt it. Does anyone remember the school doing Bye Bye Birdie?
